Fw: Potential Service in Computer Science Leadership Cohort

What an honor to get a private invitation.
I'm tooting my own horn and showing you guys what I'm interested in doing.
I'll need your support for travel dates and the like, but what an opportunity.

Re: Potential Service in Computer Science Leadership Cohort

I am most definitely interested in attending.
I have been discouraged over the past semester about getting anything to change in North Carolina especially with my school board contact leaving her position. This is the perfect invitation to muster up support for computer science.
Thank you for this invite.

Potential Service in Computer Science Leadership Cohort

Dear Jane:

The Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) has been awarded a grant with the overall objective of identifying educational leaders at the state level and working with them directly to develop outreach strategies focused on establishing K-12 computer science as an essential academic discipline.

In support of this objective, we will be conducting a three-day workshop July 8-10, 2008 focused on leadership, advocacy and development of a toolkit of advocacy materials. Attendees at the workshop will then move forward in advocacy at the state level. Although this is a volunteer effort, CSTA will cover all costs associated with travel and accommodations at the summer workshop.

On behalf of CSTA, Fran Trees (chapter liaison and volunteer coordinator for CSTA) and I (project coordinator for the grant) would like to invite you to participate in the first leadership cohort.

The table below outlines the expectations of leadership cohort participants.

Summer 2008 Local leadership preparation workshop
Fall 2008 Local leadership cohort members will:
· Complete toolkit draft
· Test and refine the outreach toolkit contents
· Identify potential local stakeholders
Winter 2009 Local leadership cohort members will:
· Create a local outreach plan
· Plan and carry out an outreach event
· Participate in cohort online community
Spring 2009 Local leadership cohort members will:
· Write project report
· Write article or blog piece
· Complete project evaluation survey

Please let me know as soon as possible, but no later than January 15, 2008, whether or not you are interested in participating in this exciting activity in support of computer science education. If you are interested, then we will send to you the formal invitation and application form.

We very much look forward to working with you.

Best regards,

Re: Just Checking In

Well, I had a child in September. Just returned to work at the beginning of November. And am just now getting back in the swing of things. I got an unfortunate letter from my school board contact:
* this is going to make this process harder because I'll have to reiterate the last three years to this man. ARGH!

Just checking in

Hi Jane,

I just thought I would send you a quick note to see if there is anything new on the K-121 CS front in North Carolina.

You might be interested to know that Deborah Seehorn from NC is on our certification white paper committee and she is really nice. We are hoping that we can come up with something that will help all states deal with the mess that is CS teacher certification.

I hope you are doing well and having a good school year.

Re: Computer Science Certification

Jane,
I'm leaving the Board at the end of this month, and will pass this information on to Kevin Hill, the newly elected District 3 Board member.
Thanks for all you do and for your persistance on this important issue.

Re: Computer Science Certification

I would not only be interested in the new job descriptions but also with the Exception from Teacher Licensing. I wander what that means. I do hope that something can be resolved soon. Remedial math is not my forte, and I seem to be stuck in it :)
